If you've been feeling overwhelmed by the clutter in your home (or your mind!), you're not alone. A messy space can drain your energy, kill your focus, and even impact your mood. But the good news? Getting organized doesn’t have to be complicated or exhausting. With a few simple strategies, you can create a clean, organized environment that supports your best life.
Here’s how to get started: Or how I attempt to: LOL
1. Start Small
Don't try to organize your whole house in one day — that's a recipe for burnout. Instead, pick one small area to tackle: a single drawer, a closet shelf, or even just your purse. The momentum from one little win can carry you into bigger projects.
Pro tip: Set a timer for 15 minutes. Whatever you can get done in that time is good enough!
2. Declutter First
Before you organize, declutter. Get rid of anything you don't use, love, or need. The less stuff you have, the easier it will be to keep your space clean.
Ask yourself:
-
Have I used this in the last year?
-
Does this item have a home?
-
Would I buy this again today?
If the answer is no, it might be time to let it go.
3. Create "Homes" for Everything
One of the biggest secrets to an organized space is giving everything a designated spot. If every item has a home, it’s much easier to put things away — and much harder to let clutter pile up.
Bins, baskets, drawer dividers, and labels can be your best friends here.
4. Clean as You Go
Instead of letting mess build up into a massive weekend project, adopt the habit of cleaning a little every day. Wipe down surfaces after you use them. Put items back immediately. A few minutes a day adds up to big results over time.
5. Set Up a Weekly Reset
Pick one day a week for a “mini reset.” Spend 30 minutes putting things back in place, doing a quick clean, and setting up your space for the week ahead. This keeps things manageable and prevents clutter from spiraling out of control.
6. Make it Fun
Organization and cleaning don’t have to be a chore. Put on your favorite music or a podcast you love. Light a candle. Reward yourself after you finish a task. The more positive you make the experience, the more likely you’ll stick with it.
Organization isn’t about being perfect — it’s about creating a space that makes you feel good. Start where you are, take it one step at a time, and remember: progress over perfection!
